Brief profile of Professor Kenneth Kaushansky:
Professor Kaushansky is a physician-scientist specializing in hematology and is known internationally for his research on the molecular biology of blood cell production. He and his research team cloned several genes important in the growth of differentiation of blood cells, including thrombopoietin (TPO), a key regulator of stem cell and platelet production.
Professor Kaushansky currently is the Distinguished Chair Professor of the Department of Medical Biotechnology and Laboratory Science (2024-present), Chang Gung University, and acts as the Dean Emeritus of Renaissance School of Medicine, Stony Brook University (2021-present), He was the vice president and Dean of School of Medicine, Stony Brook University (2010-2021), Chair of the Department of Medicine and the Helen M. Ranney Professor at University of California-San Diego (2002-2010). He also contributes significantly to the scientific society by acting as the President of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the American Society of Hematology.
Professor Kaushansky is the Master of the American College of Physicians (2007), and a Fellow of the National Academy of Medicine, National Academy of Inventors, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American College of Physicians.
